Teka III is a 52’ Beebe-designed passagemaker. She is powered by a single Gardner diesel with hydraulic come-home using a 58 hp Westerbeke or sails. She is fully outfitted for world cruising, including two Furuno radars, three GPSs, three depth finders, three VHF radios and one SSB. Range is approximately 6000 nautical miles at 7 knots. She has four watertight compartments for ultimate safety. Knight and Carver in San Diego built her of fiberglass in 1981. She has crossed the Atlantic six times
Advantages of TEKA III not offered by most new ocean-going boats include:
--Pilot house and saloon are low and amidships where motion is minimized
--Four watertight compartments
--Large covered aft lounging deck with weather doors for enjoyment when underway
--Extra-long keel with aft-mounted rudder with emergency tiller capabilities
--Oversized rudder with fins for maximum control in heavy seas or for docking
-- Full hydraulic systems including power steering, windlass and bow thruster
-- Paravanes for anti-roll that work underway and at anchor; they do not break down
--Hydraulic come-home driven by 58hp Westerbeke makes an easy 5.5 knots
--Sails for emergency propulsion (In the event of loss of prop or shaft)
--Hydraulically run generator that works with either the main or auxiliary engine so you have full AC capability underway without a generator and at anchor using the Westerbeke
--Hydraulic starter which means no battery starting problems ever
-- Gardner engine, the most reliable long range diesel ever, according to many experts
--Cruising at 1100-1200 RPM make the boat very smooth and quiet at cruise speeds
--Fuel consumption is 2.5 gph at 8 knots without paravanes; 7.5 knots with paravanes
--Double hull construction with Airex foam center: stronger, quieter, better insulated
--Many handholds for safety in rough water
--Heavy duty stainless rub rails to protect the hull while docking
--Proven and tested systems on six Atlantic crossings
--Designed and built in USA
